WHAT THE APP DOES
Pixotope Pocket uses your device's camera to capture live video and transport it over a network to a computer or workstation running Pixotope Graphics.
The app analyses the live capture video feed to estimate in real time the position of the camera in the space based on a designated origin of the space, selected by tapping on the screen.
The data generated from the calculated position, rotation and tilt of the camera at every instant is embedded in the video stream and sent together with each video frame over the same SRT connection.
HOW IT FITS IN A VIRTUAL PRODUCTION WORKFLOW WITH PIXOTOPE
Pixotope Pocket replaces the traditional broadcast/filming camera and camera tracking system in a standard Virtual Production workflow. This app has been developed by Pixotope Technologies and it integrates with Pixotope Graphics, running in a dedicated computer or workstation, to receive video and tracking data and provide the rest of the traditional Virtual Production workflow based on Unreal Engine.
The user requires a Pixotope Graphics installation and license in order to run the complete workflow. The first release of Pixotope Graphics with support for Pixotope Pocket is the 23.1.x release. Any newer release of Pixotope Graphics will also work with Pixotope Pocket.
VIDEO CAPTURE SETTINGS
- Resolution: HD (720p or 1080p), 4K/UHD (2160p)
- Frame Rate: 30 fps
VIDEO COMPRESSION SETTINGS
- Bitrate: Mbps
- GOP Size: Number of frames
- Codec: MPEG-4/H264/HEVC
In order to send the video over a network using the SRT protocol, the video must be compressed in real time to fit bandwidth constraints. Depending on your available bandwidth, you will be able to accommodate the bandwidth or video bitrate accordingly. For a given bitrate, the bigger is the GOP Size, the better the video quality will be but the higher the compression latency will result. There is trade-off where the user must choose the right balance between video quality, latency and bitrate. The two different codecs may provide different results for the same values of all the other parameters, so the user can use the one that performs better in terms of latency and video quality.
SRT CONNECTION SETTINGS
- IP and Port of the destination - Find the IP address of your workstation where Pixotope is running, and ensure the routing created in Pixotope Director to receive an SRT input has the same Port configured as the one in Pixotope Pocket to ensure proper connection establishment.
- SRT Latency - Defines the buffer size for the receiving side, to provide packet retransmission in case of packet loss. Especially important in unmanaged networks (transmissions over the Internet). In local area networks, this buffer may be set to a lower value, as long as it doesn't affect the stability of the transmission. SRT Sender and Receiver will auto-negotiate and use the highest value configured.
- Password - Protects and encrypts your video content. Must match between Sender and Receiver for a successful transmission
